What can a thermal camera see that a regular camera cannot?
Thermal cameras detect heat rather than light, so they see in total darkness, through smoke, and through light fog or foliage where a conventional camera sees nothing. For long perimeters at night, thermal detects a person far beyond the range of any visible-light camera.
Are thermal cameras only for detecting body temperature?
No. Body temperature screening became widely known during the pandemic, but the dominant commercial use is perimeter security and industrial monitoring — detecting intruders in darkness and spotting overheating equipment before it fails.
How far can a thermal camera detect a person?
Depending on the lens and sensor, detection ranges commonly run from a few hundred feet to well over a thousand. Detection range and identification range are different things, and we specify against which one you actually need.
Can I add thermal to my existing system?
Often yes. If you already have a compatible recorder we can frequently add thermal cameras to it rather than replacing everything. We check your existing DVR or NVR during the survey.
Are thermal cameras expensive?
