The honest version

What actually matters when you buy a commercial camera system

Most businesses that call us have already been burned once. They bought a cheap system online, mounted it themselves or paid a handyman, and then discovered the hard way that it did not do the one job it existed to do. The break-in happened, they pulled the footage, and the face was an unrecognisable grey blur. Or the cameras had quietly stopped recording eleven weeks earlier and nobody noticed.

After 33 years installing commercial and industrial systems across Houston, the pattern is consistent. Four things separate a system that produces usable evidence from one that just produces a monthly bill.

1. Resolution is meaningless without placement

A 4K camera pointed at the wrong angle is worse than a 1080p camera pointed correctly, because it costs more and still fails. Identification requires a certain number of pixels across the subject's face — which means camera height, distance and lens choice matter more than the number printed on the box. We walk the property before quoting because you cannot design coverage from a satellite photo.

2. Lighting beats megapixels

The overwhelming majority of commercial incidents happen at night or in poorly lit areas — loading docks, rear alleys, back lots. A camera that produces a beautiful image at noon and a useless one at 2am has failed. We specify sensors and infrared or low-light colour based on the actual lighting conditions at your site, measured at the hours you are most exposed.

3. AI analytics are worth it — for the right reasons

Modern AI detection is genuinely transformative, but not for the reason it is usually sold. The value is not futuristic threat prediction. It is that the system can distinguish a person or vehicle from rain, shadows, insects and windblown debris. That turns hundreds of nightly false alerts into two real ones, which means someone actually looks at them. An alert system nobody trusts is an alert system nobody reads.

4. Retention has to match your risk, not your budget

Businesses routinely discover a loss weeks after it happened — inventory shrink found at quarterly count, an employee issue that surfaces later, an insurance claim filed after the fact. If your recorder only holds fourteen days, the evidence is already gone. We size storage to how long it realistically takes you to notice a problem.

Why Houston is its own problem

Gulf Coast conditions are hostile to equipment. Heat, humidity, salt air near the bay, and hurricane season all shorten the life of hardware that was designed for a mild climate. Consumer-grade cameras mounted outdoors here commonly fail within two or three years. We specify commercial-grade, weather-sealed housings and mounting hardware rated for the wind loads this region actually sees, because replacing a failed camera after a storm costs more than installing the right one the first time.

We have done this for the Houston Rockets, NRG Stadium, the George R. Brown Convention Center, the Houston Police Department, multiple city governments and fire departments, and hundreds of warehouses, dealerships, refineries and storefronts across the region. The full list is on our clients page.

FAQ

Commercial security cameras in Houston — common questions

How much does a commercial security camera system cost in Houston?

Most Houston commercial installations land between $3,500 and $25,000 depending on camera count, resolution, and whether you need AI analytics or thermal. A 8-16 camera system for a typical warehouse or retail space usually falls in the $6,000 to $14,000 range installed. Use the instant estimator on this page for a planning range, then we confirm it with a free on-site survey.

How long does installation take?

A straightforward 8-16 camera commercial system is normally installed in one to three days. Larger industrial sites, multi-building campuses, or jobs requiring fiber or trenching take longer. We schedule around your operating hours so we are not shutting down your business to run cable.

Can I watch my cameras from my phone?

Yes. Every system we install includes secure remote viewing from a phone, tablet or computer, anywhere with an internet connection. You can pull up live views, scrub recorded footage, and export clips without calling us.

How long is footage stored?

Standard retention is 30 days, and we routinely configure 60, 90 days, or a full year for clients with insurance, compliance or legal requirements. Retention depends on camera count, resolution and frame rate — we size the recorder to the retention you actually need.

Do you service what you sell, or just install it?

We service everything we install. We have been a family-operated Houston company for 33 years, and a large share of our work is maintaining and expanding systems we put in years ago. You are not handed off to a call center in another state.

Do you work outside Houston?

Yes. We cover the entire Greater Houston area and travel across Texas — Harris, Fort Bend, Galveston, Brazoria, Montgomery, Liberty and Chambers counties are routine for us, and we have installed systems from the coast to West Texas.

Are you licensed?

Yes — Texas license B04080401. Texas requires a state license for security system installation, and you should ask any contractor for their number before signing anything. Unlicensed installs can void insurance claims.
